You have a Chrome Key if your Mercedes-Benz key fob is metal-cased. Check the panic button to see if your Chrome key is brand-new or outdated. Is it triangular (new) or circular (old) in shape?
Choose The Right Batteries
Both the older Chrome Key and a SmartKey need two CR 2025 batteries. The more recent Chrome Key only needs one.
Replace A Mercedes-Benz Chrome Key Fob Battery
- The silver, square-shaped tab on the key’s bottom must first be pulled downward. Pull it until it gives way.
- You’ll notice a tiny gap in the fob once the tab has been separated. To open the key cover, insert the key into the flat, slender end of the fob.
- A new battery should be installed in its place after the old one is removed. Verify that the new battery is facing the appropriate direction.
Replace A Mercedes-Benz Smart Key Fob Battery
- The key should automatically come out of the fob when you pull on the latch end.
- There will be a visible slot at the key fob’s end once the key is released.
- To open the battery compartment, insert the key into this slot.
- Make sure the new battery is facing the proper direction before replacing the old one.
